According to many people, every world view must be blameless before you can point at the violence emanating from Islam. For if every world-view has its’ share of violence, why are we focusing on the one world-view so severely. At least, this is the impression I got from Andrew O’Keefe on sunrise.
There are only two serious flaws to this line of reasoning. The first one is, naturally every world-view has its’ share of violence. Very few people disagree with that. What many people disagree with is that every world-view has a fair share of violence in contemporary society. The two key words to that sentence, are ‘contemporary’ and ‘fair’. Andrew cited the Christian who murdered several people at an abortion clinic in 2009. Since proofreading this article, hundreds of people have been murdered, raped or sold into slavery at in the name of Islam. Since 2009, millions upon millions of people have been displaced due to Islam inspired violence. It does seem like Andrew should consider whether Islam has its’ fair share of violence, or rather the whole cake with a few crumbs left over. Anyway, this is my open challenge. Name a single worldview since 2009 that has caused even one fiftieth the amount of suffering and tragedy that Islam has.
The second major flaw in Andrew’s reasoning is simple, Muslims kill screaming Allahu Akhbar. It is not just that they kill and happen to be Muslims, as it was with the IRA, whose members killed people, and also happened to be catholic (another coommon citation). But Muslims kill while screaming ‘Allahu Akhbar’. Before any of ISIS’s beheadings the terrorists go on a citation craze throughout the Qu’ran. Their killing is so explicitly connected to their world-view. So here is my next challenge. If you hear someone screaming “Allahu Akhbar’, run to him (I doubt you will). After all, all Allahu Akhbar means is God is great, it doesn’t have anything to do with violence.
However I do agree with Andrew that not all Muslims are like the ones I just described. Nevertheless, there is an excessive number that is, to the point where Muslims as a whole are not beneficial to a country.
