Islam: cult or religion?

Australian senator-in-waiting Pauline Hanson is not sophisticated in her mannerisms nor nuanced in her views, so when she criticises anything, she tends to use blunt language to do the job. Her main political issue (the Islamisation of Australia) has given her fierce opposition, but has also rode her to success in the latest elections. She was recently a guest on Q&A, along with allegedly Muslim MP, Sam Dastyari. While these two clashed over Hanson’s proposal to ban all Muslim immigration, an interesting question from Q&A’s twitter feed was presented, which read, “Can you please explain what constitutes a religion and a cult with respect to Islam?”

A sad day for Nice, a good day for posturing

So as everyone in the West already knows, there was an attack at Nice, France, which killed about 84 people (figures are still varied a little). So what we should expect to see in the next few days is: buildings changing lights, Facebook profile pics turning blue, red and white, a round of condolences and condemnations from various public officials, assurances that this tragedy will not change us and even more fervent assurances that this tragedy has absolutely nothing to with any religion in particular.

Any martyr will do...

In 1955 a law abiding, upstanding, contributing member of society took a stand against racial injustice in the United States and became a martyr for her community. Her name was Rosa Parks. Upon seeing the injustice of racial segregation on public buses, Rosa Parkes refused to leave her seat for the blacks only section. It was a small stance, but a powerful one that ultimately resulted in the Montgomery bus boycotts which then lead to the racial desegregation on Public Buses.

Brexit: Democratic flaws

As a supporter of the Brexit, I am not super happy about the success of the Brexit referendum. In fact, my emotions are weirdly mixed. And strangely enough, it is not for the reasons being currently cited. I am not filled with Regret-xit. Nor do I now acknowledge my Brexit beliefs to be more of a protest belief.
