Whenever a frenzied stabbing, mass shooting or suicide bombing occurs, I try to reserve my judgement on who the perpetrator was and what motivated him. But these stories are becoming so common, that it is hard not to leap to certain conclusions. Still, I do the diligent thing and gather information from multiple news websites to form an accurate picture of the tragedy. I have been doing this for a while and have come to notice that in our PC world there is only one type of person who kills en masse.
Sophie's choice for the progressive left
Many rights championed by the progressive left today are not focused on the individual, but on groups of people who have a characteristic in common. These characteristics are often centred around gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation, but they can include practically any other characteristic that can make a clear distinction between the “in-group” and the wider community. The “in-group” is generally referred to as the identity group, and the focus on their situation by the progressive left is referred to as identity politics.
The cost of free speech
Few people know that before the outbreak of World War II there was heavy “collaboration” between Hollywood and the Nazi party. Indeed, Germany was one of the biggest foreign markets for films, so Hollywood was careful to ensure it did not make Germany look bad. Hollywood’s concern for Germany’s reputation became so strong that scripts and films were regularly sent to Nazi officials for approval before being brought onto the market or sent for production. Until 1940, there was not a single film that Hollywood produced that was critical of Hitler.
Where are all the feminists?
As I have said before, I am no feminist. Not because I do not believe in equality of men and women, but because I do not believe in feminism the movement. During my University years, I elected to study one unit of feminism. I was extremely unpopular with the rest of the cohort. Strangely enough, not because of my stance on controversial issues like abortion, but because of my unwillingness to prioritize cultural behaviours over women’s rights.
The arrogance of the West
This year marks the first century of the Sykes-Picot accord. It was created during the fall of the Ottoman Empire when the future of the Middle East was unknown and chaos reigned. For those of us who are unfamiliar with this document, its purpose was to divide up parts of the middle east into countries and then place those countries under the governance of Britain, France and Russia. Named after the two main negotiators, Mark Sykes from Britain, and Francois Georges-Picot from France, this document came about without seeking any advice from Middle Eastern leaders.
